KATY SHADEK
MSOT Class of 2025
Katy Shadek, a member of the MSOT Class of 2025, is currently living in Flagstaff,
Arizona, where she is practicing as an occupational therapist. Katy is a wonderful
example of a student who chose to be bold in pursuing her Level II fieldwork
placement, moving to Flagstaff to complete a clinical learning experience at
Stable Foundations Therapy, a therapeutic riding stable that uses horses as a
modality for occupational therapy intervention.
Katy loved her fieldwork experience and was so successful in the setting that she
was offered a full-time position at the site after graduation. She now works as an
occupational therapist at Stable Foundations Therapy, as well as in a local
school district serving rural Native American communities.
In addition to the beauty of the Flagstaff landscape, Katy enjoys living and
working in Arizona where she can support children’s development and make a
meaningful difference in the lives of rural youth throughout the region.
We are so proud of Katy and the path she has created for herself in this
innovative area of occupational therapy practice. She is also ready and excited
to step into the role of fieldwork educator, welcoming future SBU OT students
who may be interested in exploring this unique and meaningful practice setting!
